Democratic senator and Carhartt hoodie enthusiast John Fetterman crashed his Chevrolet Traverse into the back of an Impala in Maryland on Sunday morning, landing himself, certified baddie Giselle Fetterman, and the driver of the Impala in the hospital. Nobody was seriously injured, Fetterman was treated for a bruised shoulder and released. Neither driver was tested for drugs or alcohol, and no citations were issued at the time. Fault for the crash was assigned to the senator, with speed and the back bumper of the car he hit as evidence.

“You might have heard G and I were in a car accident yesterday. Thank you all for the well wishes. Not the best way to spend our 16th wedding anniversary but we’re doing well and happy to be back home in Braddock with the family,” he wrote on Twitter after release from the hospital.

From the police report taken at the scene:

VEHICLE 2 WAS TRAVELING WESTBOUND ON I-70 PRIOR TO I-68 IN LANE 1 WHEN IT WAS REAR ENDED BY VEHICLE 1.

THE WITNESS TO THE ACCIDENT ADVISED VEHICLE 1 PASSED HER TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, WELL OVER THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT AT WHICH SHE WAS TRAVELING AT THE TIME.

SHORTLY AFTER VEHICLE 1 PASSED THE WITNESS, SHE OBSERVED VEHICLE 1 REAR END VEHICLE 2 JUST PRIOR TO EXIT 1 FOR I-68. ALL THREE INDIVIDUALS INVOLVED IN THE ACCIDENT WERE TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL.

BOTH VEHICLES WERE TOWED FROM THE SCENE.

MARYLAND STATE PROPERTY WAS NOT DAMAGED.

The junior senator from Pennsylvania recently opened up about suffering a stroke in 2022, saying the brain injury freed him to abandon the progressive politics that he campaigned on and embrace a more conservative agenda. There is no word as to whether the stroke affected his ability to drive.
