McDonald’s stores across Australia hit by widespread system outages

The Big Macs are on hold with McDonald’s eateries across the country struck down by an IT glitch.

Friday takeaway plans have been thrown into chaos for customers, with some stores closed completely and others only taking orders made with cash.

The meltdown is understood to have started at 4.30pm (AEST), with issues with the fast food giant’s ordering computers and EFTPOS machines to blame.

“McDonald’s restaurants are experiencing an IT issue that’s impacting their ability to process orders,” a McDonald’s spokesperson said, according to Pulse Tasmania.

“Our team is working to rectify the issues as soon as possible and we thank customers for their patience.”

A sign on one store said: “We can not take any orders. Our systems are down — this is a national issue (at the moment).

“Sorry for the inconvenience”.

Another store in Perth said staff could only take cash orders.

“Cash only. (We) cannot accept online orders as well – whole system is down,” a notice to customers read.

Hungry customers took to social media to share the news, with one saying they “just want a sundae”.

– More to come.
