McDonald’s meals Happy again after tech issues resolved

McDonald’s restaurants are back up and running all across Australia after many were forced to close when global technology failed.

The incident on Friday led to some staff being sent home and hundreds of reports to Downdetector about problems connecting to the McDonald’s app, check-out and website.

A post from “Team Macca’s” in the early hours of Saturday confirmed the technology outage had been resolved.

“All Macca’s restaurants have now re-opened,” the post on X (formerly Twitter) read.

“A huge thanks again to our wonderful customers and hard-working crew for your patience and support.”

The issue appeared to have started after 4pm, and also affected countries across the globe, including the UK, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Japan, Denmark, Italy and Thailand.

The Chicago-based company has said the outage was caused by a third-party technology provider and was not a cybersecurity issue.

The Big Macs were on hold at McDonald’s across the country — and even overseas — after the golden arches was struck down by an IT glitch.

Friday takeaway plans were thrown into chaos for customers, with some stores closed completely and others only taking orders with cash.

The meltdown is understood to have started at 4.30pm (AEST) and impacted the fast food giant’s ordering computers and EFTPOS machines.

In an updated statement just after 9pm (AEST), a spokesperson said McDonald’s was aware of the “technology outage” impacting restaurants and that the company was working to resolve it.

“We thank customers for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused,” the spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au.

A sign posted at the entry of one store said: “We cannot take any orders. Our systems are down — this is a national issue (at the moment).

“Sorry for the inconvenience.”

Another store in Perth said staff could only take cash orders.

“Cash only. (We) cannot accept online orders as well — whole system is down,” a notice to customers read.
