Good Group, restaurants in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, enters voluntary administration

The future of a company that owns high-end steakhouse Botswana Butchery and Asian restaurant chain White & Wong is uncertain, after an external administrator was appointed.

New Zealand company Good Group announced its restaurants in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra were in voluntary administration.

BDO Australia, appointed as administrators, said Botswana Butchery restaurants were tradings as usual but White & Wong eateries had ceased trading.

“The administrators are undertaking an urgent assessment of the companies with a view of facilitating a restructure … or sale process in due course,” administrators Andrew Sallway and Duncan Clubb said in a joint statement.

“The administrators will continue to work closely with Good Group Australia’s directors, management, staff, and creditors.”

Good Groups launched its Australian venture with Botswana Butchery restaurants in Sydney’s Martin Place and Melbourne’s Flinders Lane in 2022.

On its menu is a 1.6kg wagyu tomahawk steak, costing almost $400.

The company’s New Zealand businesses are not affected, BDO Australia said.
