Diner raises eyebrows over bizarre letter to chef with strict dietary requirements

“Absolutely no cheese and tomatoes.”

These were some of the ingredients a customer with strict dietary requirements requested at a pizza restaurant.

A chef was lost for words when the diner — whose friends nicknamed him “Onion” — handed him a bizarre letter outlining the ingredients he didn’t want in his meal “under any circumstances”.

The customer urged kitchen staff to avoid putting cheese and tomatoes on his food — despite the two ingredients being the pizza’s main elements.

He claimed the ingredients could lead to “triggering a very unpleasant reaction” from him — including vulgar language, food throwing, ranting, raving and in “many cases”, vomiting and soiling oneself.

“Dear waiter, waitress, cook or chef: Please read this carefully before we begin the food ordering or preparation process,” the letter began, which was shared via Reddit.

“To make my dining, and your work experience more tolerable, please read and follow the very specific requests regarding my food and its preparation.”

First on his banned list of ingredients was cheese.

“Absolutely positively no cheese on my food under any circumstances,” Onion said.

“Believe me, you don’t want to see, hear or smell any of these things.”

The next offender was pork chops.

“Please don’t serve me, or even suggest any pork chops,” the customer said.

“I had a very nasty experience with pork chops that caused me to have a (bad) gallbladder. Please avoid pork chops at all costs.

“They will cause what my friends and family call ‘code brown’… You don’t want that here in your establishment.”

Third on his list of allergies are tomatoes.

“Please do not serve me any type of tomatoes or even give me any food that has come in contact with tomatoes,” she requested.

“Please, for everyone’s sake, don’t give me any tomatoes or food that has touched tomatoes.”

The customer ended his letter with an unusual request for extra onions.

“I love onions. That’s why my nickname is Onion,” he explained.

“If I order a sandwich please only put bread, meat and lots of onions on it… That’s all I want.

“And remember… No cheese under any circumstances. No cheese.”

The diner thanked the restaurant for “taking the time to read” her letter of dietary requirements.

”By complying with my very specific food requirements, you will ensure all of us will have a much more pleasant dining experience,” he said.

“You will also boost your chances of a bigger tip and save both of us the bother of me asking to speak with the manager.”

In a follow-up the chef revealed they sold the customer a plate of red onions for $3.

“The people he was with got normal pizzas so I don’t know what the hell any of it was about,” the chef said.

The post has been met with more than 5200 comments — with many shocked over the customer’s bizarre letter while others suggested they would have refused to serve him.

“I wouldn’t serve him and I am saying that as person who has had a restaurant. He is a lawsuit waiting to happen and that letter was just a warning. Total nutcase and his business will neither make but could break an establishment,” one said.

Another suggested: “I would just politely tell them we can’t serve them and probably just ask them and their table to leave. Not worth dealing with the drama. And then hopefully the other people at the table might correct their behaviour.”

One added: “In what universe did we make it acceptable to let customers serve us a note that essentially says, ‘Do exactly what I want… or I will throw food and defecate all over your restaurant and you have to be okay with all of this’.”

However, some defended the customer’s letter.

“I get it and absolutely understand his requests. If you’ve ever worked in any kind of restaurant, I’m sure you’ve encountered a person with specific dietary needs,” one said, but added: “However, what confuses me about this is why on earth would he go to a pizza place?”

Another shared: “I worked at a pizza shop for a while. The amount of no cheese pizzas I’ve made is way beyond what someone would guess.”
