Ye, the former Kanye West, has 11th No. 1 Album with 'Vultures 1'

(NewsNation) — The latest album from Ye, the musical artist formerly known as Kanye West, will debut at No. 1 on the Feb. 24 Billboard 200 albums chart.

“Vultures 1,” produced in collaboration with Ty Dolla Sign, is the first studio album for the pair “released outside of the major label system,” according to Billboard’s Keith Caulfield, having arrived via Ye’s YZY label Feb. 10.

It is the musician’s 11th album to debut in the top spot, a number that ties him with rock star Bruce Springsteen and singer Barbara Streisand. Only The Beatles (19), Jay-Z (14), Drake and the omnipresent Taylor Swift (13 each) have had more.

“Vultures 1” is the first album by Ye following his string of antisemitic remarks in late 2022, which resulted in the loss of many of his commercial relationships, including a lucrative sneaker deal with Adidas. The singer was also roundly criticized for attending a dinner with former President Donald Trump and white nationalist Nick Fuentes at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in November of 2022.

In December 2023, Ye apologized to the Jewish community through social media posts written in Hebrew.
