Woman killed in two-vehicle crash at highway intersection near Parkes in Central West NSW

A woman has died in a two-vehicle crash near Parkes in Central West NSW.

The 83-year-old woman was a passenger in a sedan when it crashed with a utility vehicle at the intersection of the Newell Hwy and Ashburnham Rd at Daroobalgie — approximately 20km south of Parkes — about 4.15pm on Monday.

The woman died at the site of the crash before paramedics arrived.

The 83-year-old man behind the wheel of the sedan was treated by paramedics before he was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

Four people were travelling in the utility vehicle when the crash occurred.

The 52-year-old man behind the wheel and his three passengers — a 58-year-old man, a 56-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman — were treated for minor injuries then taken to Forbes Hospital.

The driver underwent mandatory testing at hospital.

NSW Police are now investigating the crash, and specialist police are examining the scene.
