Whitby man charged after woman sexually assaulted in Uber vehicle

Durham Regional Police have charged a Whitby man after a female passenger in an Uber vehicle was sexually assaulted.

On Sunday, police responded to a sexual assault call in the area of Taunton Rd. and Garden St. in Whitby after a woman was sexually assaulted by a man driving for Uber as she was being taken back to her home.

Anees Ashraf, 32, of Whitby has been charged with two counts of sexual assault.

“The accused may be continuing to offer ridesharing services under different transportation apps,” Const. Nicholas Gluckstein said in a news release. “Investigators are in contact with these companies, but want to ensure there are no further victims. In the interest of public safety an image of the accused has been posted and can be viewed at www.drps.ca.”
