Maybe it’s a sign that at the ripe old age of 28 I’m becoming jaded, but I don’t think many modern cars look as good as they did just a few years or restyles ago. When car designers are asked to design a new vehicle, they have to remember that aerodynamic efficiency, safety, and government regulation all take precedence over pure graceful design. That’s not to say it’s impossible to produce a truly show-stopping automobile in the year 2024, it just takes a lot of work and money to make sure the design complies with those measures.
In a field of split headlights, light bars, and unpainted plastic panels, a couple new car designs stand out to me. I’ll start with the iconic, understated Volvo V60. Volvo’s design language is about to be overhauled with the onslaught of electrified models like the EX90 and EX30 which both look good, but I fear the current V60 is better-looking. Plus it’s a long-roofed, low-slung wagon which is hard to beat. If not the Volvo V60, then I say the Lexus LC500 coupe is the best-looking car on sale today. Again, the LC’s design has been around for a while now, but it’s still distinctive, daring, and avant-garde, both inside and out. Honorable mentions go to the Genesis lineup, all of which feature the only respectable split-headlight design on the market.
That’s enough of me yapping, though. We humbly come to you, dearest Jalopnik reader, to share your thoughts on the best-looking car currently on sale. Do you agree that there are fewer achingly gorgeous cars than there was in years past, or have I gone full-blown boomer and need to start yelling at kids to get off my lawn? As if I could afford a home with a lawn in this economy. Anyway, sound off in the comments!
