West Coast co-captain Oscar Allen set to miss two months with knee injury

West Coast have been dealt a horific injury blow with co-captain Oscar Allen sidelined with bone stress in his right knee.

Allen had scans on Tuesday after his knee swelled up after Sunday’s 50-point loss to Port Adelaide.

The club didn’t officially put a timeframe on the injury, but 7NEWS Perth reporter Ryan Daniels understands he will be sidelined for 6-8 weeks.

“Co-captain Oscar Allen will miss some football after experiencing soreness in his right knee,” the club said in a statement.

“Allen did not report any soreness before, during or immediately after Sunday’s match against Port Adelaide, but underwent scans on Tuesday after experiencing swelling which revealed some bone stress.

“The club will continue to assess Allen’s knee and provide an update in coming days when a return-to-play timeframe becomes clearer.”

It continues a nightmare run on the injury front for the Eagles, who last year barely had 22 fit players to choose from, and have won a total of five games across the past two years.

Allen, who turned 25 on Tuesday, had appeared set for a big season after booting 53 goals last year and taking on the co-captaincy.

His absence comes as last season’s wooden spooners prepare to face a rampant GWS.

Fellow senior Eagles Liam Ryan (hamstring) and Dom Sheed (foot) are still at least three weeks away

“Liam and Dom are both progressing well. We expect to see them in pretty much full training this week,” high-performance manager Mat Inness told the club’s website.

“Now it’s just a matter of building up their loads so hopefully we’ll see them return to play in the next three to four weeks.”

Key defender Harry Edwards is on the verge of a comeback from a broken finger, while youngster Jai Culley is closing in on his return from last year’s ACL injury.

Ruckman Matt Flynn and young gun Elijah Hewett are also on the lengthy injury list.

The Eagles will make multiple changes for this week’s clash with coach Adam Simpson already confirming Andrew Gaff will be dropped.
