A section of Hwy. 6, north of Hamilton, reopened after an early morning shooting reportedly sent two women to a local trauma centre, including one who was in critical condition.

The OPP’s GTA traffic account posted at 6:33 a.m. Sunday that Hwy. 6, near Millgrove, between Concession 5 Rd. E. and Concession 5 Rd. W., was closed due to an “ongoing police investigation.” The OPP’s Highway Safety Division later said that officers from the Burlington detachment were investigating a shooting in the area that happened shortly after 5 a.m.

The highway was reopened by Sunday evening.

Hamilton Emergency Services were called to the area at about the same time, Supt. David Thompson told CP24. They reported that two women, believed to be in their 20s, were sent to a trauma centre, with one in life-threatening condition and the other in serious condition.

No other details were offered, CP24 reported, due to the investigation.

Witnesses are asked to call the police at 905-681-2511.
