Trump, Haley move 2024 campaigning to South Carolina

(NewsNation) — Former President Donald Trump and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley are campaigning in the Palmetto State ahead of the Republican primary set for Feb. 24.

Trump is holding rallies across the state as he continues to lead Haley in the polls.

Fresh off another dominant win in the Nevada caucuses Thursday night, Trump used the National Rifle Association (NRA) forum to highlight his support of gun rights, a major priority for GOP voters. The issue is also a major motivator for Democrats as well as younger voters who grew up participating in active shooter drills and have witnessed a spate of school shootings in recent years.

He also slammed the Department of Justice for not criminally charging President Joe Biden for his handling of classified documents, accusing prosecutors of having an unfair double standard. Trump also made Biden’s age a talking point at the NRA event,

Some Trump supporters are already lining up ahead of his events, telling NewsNation they believe they are watching history in the making. Another South Carolina voter says questions about Biden’s mental health are pushing her to consider voting for Trump.

“They want to say that he has mental issues, but then they don’t want to charge him for what he’s done. Take a choice. You can have it both ways. That’s exactly the way that he is. I have no respect for him.”

Meanwhile, Haley is holding dueling campaigns in her home state, trying to drum up last-minute support.

According to a recent poll, Trump holds a 26-point lead over Haley in South Carolina, with 58% support among potential Republican primary voters.
