‘TOO TOXIC’: Oscar Pistorius unable to find work post-prison release

Former Olympian and convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius hasn’t had much success in rebuilding his life since he was released from prison in January after being granted parole.

Pistorius — who killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, inside the home they shared in 2013 — can’t catch a break work-wise, according to former friends.

The former double-amputee athlete reportedly reached out to two members of the International Paralympic Committee after his release looking for a chance to work together.

“He’s too toxic to work with now,” one of the committee members told the New York Post. “There’s nothing for him here.”

Unemployable, Pistorius now volunteers at a Dutch Reformed Church his uncle Arnold attends, NG Kerk Waterkloof, where he performs light maintenance and janitorial work, according to parole documents.

Since his parole release, the Post reports that Pistorius hasn’t done much, remaining holed up inside his uncle’s heavily guarded home in Pretoria, South Africa.

As part of terms of his release, Pistorius has random check-ins from a parole officer, tests for alcohol and drugs, can’t contact Steenkamp’s family, post on social media or participate in interviews, and cannot write about his experiences, the Post reported.

Pistorius was granted parole after serving a little more than half of his 13-year sentence. His January release was opposed by Steenkamp’s family.

An accomplished para athlete, Pistorius garnered international acclaim after becoming the first double amputee to run in the Olympics in 2012. However, his athletic career was overshadowed by infamy after he shot Steenkap multiple times through a bathroom door in their home.

Pistorius claimed during his 2014 murder trial that he mistook his partner for a burglar. He was initially sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of culpable homicide, however, that sentence was doubled to 13 years and five months after an appeal from prosecutors.
