In a new interview with CBS Mornings, Selleck, 79, says he’s hoping the network will “come to their senses” and reverse its plan to end the show later this year with Season 14.

“We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night,” Selleck says in a new interview. “All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place. So, I don’t know. You tell me!”

Selleck leads the family-focused police procedural as New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan. The cast also includes Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, Len Cariou, Jennifer Esposito, Steve Schirripa, Marisa Ramirez and Vanessa Ray.

Last November, CBS announced that it was ending the show in the fall of this year with a two-part season.

“For the past 13 years it has been an honour and a privilege to work on a show that not only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City, but also displayed the importance of family,” Selleck said at the time. “Working alongside these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors and crew has been a dream come true and I’m grateful to have been a part of this extraordinary group for over 275 episodes. Thank you to CBS Studios and the CBS network for their steadfast support, and we offer heartfelt gratitude to the fans who gathered with us for dinner every Friday night.”

But in his interview with CBS Mornings, Selleck said the show allows him to keep living in the 63-acre California ranch he’s lived in since 1988.

Correspondent Tracy Smith asked, “Seriously, that’s an issue? If you stopped working?”

“That’s always an issue,” the actor admitted. “If I stopped working, yeah. Am I set for life? Yeah, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!”

In 2020, the Emmy winner spoke to PEOPLE about what his abode means to him.

“My relationships and my ranch keep me sane,” he said. “I do grunt work and I make the rounds. I like watching things grow. It’s a retreat.”

After its 14th season, Blue Bloods, which debuted in 2010, will rank among the 10 longest-running CBS scripted series of all time.

Last month, Selleck’s co-stars Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Moynahan said they are “upset and sad” about the show’s end.

During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Wahlberg and Moynahan debuted a clip from the 14th and final season, which is currently airing on CBS and CTV, that showed the Reagan family gathered together at their weekly Sunday dinner.

Barrymore asked the pair, who play siblings Danny Reagan and Erin Reagan-Boyle on the series, how the cast is feeling as the end draws near. “It’s been 14 seasons, this is the final one, there’s two parts to it… How are you guys feeling about it? Because I think everybody’s really upset and sad, but also happy and satiated?” she wondered aloud.

“More upset and sad,” Wahlberg, 54, replied.

“I think it’s more saying goodbye to the people behind the characters,” Moynahan, 52, explained. “We’ve created such a family on set with each other and the crew — most of the crew’s been with us for 14 years, so we’ve been through a lot of weddings, births, deaths, and everything. We’ve been through it all with each other.”

Earlier this year, Selleck predicted CBS might regret their decision to dump the show.

“They say it’s an eight-episode wind-down, and I say, ‘We’ll see,’” Selleck told USA Today. “Look, I’ll do whatever is best for the whole situation. But I love this show, obviously. And I think CBS is going to end up being very conflicted with their present plans.”

The Season 14 mid-season finale of Blue Bloods will air May 17 on CBS and CTV. In the episode, Danny (Wahlberg) and Gormley (Robert Clohessy) race to find Gus Vanderlip (Aidan Quinn), a committed detective who is dangerously determined to uncover how a rapist he arrested is back on the streets.
