Thousands shocked after discovering why toothbrushes have different-coloured bristles

Have you ever wondered why your toothbrush has different-coloured bristles?

The simple answer, provided by a teacher, has stunned the internet.

“Do you know why your toothbrush is different colours?” teacher Jess said in a now-viral video.

“It is actually to help measure out your toothpaste.”

Jess says “you only need to use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste” and that the coloured part of the toothbrush is where it should go.

Most people are wasting toothpaste and, too often, they use more than they need, she says.

Her video has had more than 46,000 views and people have expressed their shock in the comments.

“Mind blown. I was today years old,” said one.

“I learnt a new thing today,” added another.

“So, I have used 10,000 per cent more toothpaste than I needed, all my life?!” said a third.

According to an American study published in The National Institute of Health in 2020, “a pea-sized amount” of toothpaste is “close to 0.25 grams”.

Meanwhile, the internet was similarly shocked after an Aussie mum recently shared a hack for school lunches.

Domestic and cleaning expert Leanne says her trick “saves you so much time in the morning”.

The mum says she freezes her kids sandwiches and “they don’t even notice”.

Fillings such as “ham and cheese, Vegemite, jam, honey and peanut butter” all freeze well, she says.

“Then store (the sandwiches) in an airtight container and they won’t go soggy,” Leanne said.

She finished her post by asking other parents: “Do you find this gross? I would love to know if you have any school mum hacks”.

Commenters were divided, with some praising the trick, while others said they wouldn’t do it.

“I wouldn’t eat a frozen sandwich so not making it for my kiddies,” said one.

But many thought it was a great time-saver.

“I love this idea,” said one, while another said: “Great way to save time.”
