This Mitsubishi Dealer’s Used Car Inventory Is Uniquely Wild

Working at a Mitsubishi dealer has to be as boring as working at a paint or mattress store — there’s just nothing really interesting to sell. Other than the recently redesigned (and pretty good) Outlander and its PHEV variant, Mitsubishi dealers have only the fourteen-year-old Outlander Sport, the blasphemous Eclipse Cross and the Mirage sedan and hatchback.

Because of this light lineup, Mitsubishi dealers always seem to have great used inventories filled with things you wouldn’t expect to see on a Mitsubishi lot. Take Southtowne Mitsubishi in Sandy, Utah, for instance. The dealer currently has 68 new Mitsubishis for sale, nearly all of which are Outlanders. Their used inventory is massive however, enough for two or three dealers’ worth of cars. They currently have 950 used cars for sale, more than a dozen times the number of new Mitsubishis. And there’s some interesting shit in the lot, showing that these guys probably live at local auctions. They have 58 F-150s for sale, 13 of which are Raptors, and one is a 2024 Raptor with just 206 miles that they’re asking $159,950 for.

Want something a bit faster and fancier? Southtowne has got you covered. You can go for a 2012 Ferrari California for $83,788. Or if you have some big money to spend, you can go for the highest priced car on the lot: a 2022 Ferrari F8 Tributo for $379,950. If you’ve got people move needs, there’s an assortment of Mercedes Sprinters, a few of which look to be modded for off-road duty. If you want some American muscle, there’s even a couple of Challenger Hellcat Super Stocks. You won’t pay less than six figures for them, but they’re there. There’s even a a couple random Rivians, a C8 Z06 and an Audi RS6 Avant, plus vintage stuff like a 1986 Chevy Blazer. This is all in addition to the typical used stuff like Hyundais, Volkswagens and Kias.

We’ve seen stuff like this before at dealers. And while it’s cool to have a unique and diverse used car lineup, having to rely on this kind of inventory with prices reserved for customers that otherwise wouldn’t step foot on your lot seems a bit troubling.
