The Gen X names so popular they’re nearly dead with today’s parents

It was only recently that the top baby names for 2024 were announced, with Oliver being the favourite yet again for baby boys and proving to be the most popular boys’ name for the 11th year in a row.

According to McCrindle Research, Isla reclaimed the top spot as the country’s most popular girls’ name after being knocked off by Charlotte last year.

Now in a viral video, TikTok account Nostalgia Nut revealed the once-popular Generation X names that are almost “obsolete” with today’s parents.

Generation X refers to the generation between Baby Boomers and Millennials, so people born between 1965 and 1980.

So what are the names parents are steering clear of?

The video received more than 700,000 views and people in the comments were quick to agree.

“Karen is never coming back,” said one.

“Karen here! I am saddened by what has happened to my name. Is there a manager I can speak to? Pronto!” another added.

“I’m obsolete,” laughed a woman named Donna.

Whereas others in the comments thought there was still hope for a comeback with some of the names listed.

“Surely Nigel and Gary will make a comeback,” said one.

“Lindseys need to comeback,” added a second.

“I’ve always loved the name Donna though,” said a third.
