With lyrics written by the legendary Elton John, this adaptation of the bestselling novel and the 2006 movie of the same name will send viewers back into the world of Runway Magazine with a new spin.

The show is due to begin in October, 2024, and will run until May, 2025 – so there’s plenty of time to see the fabulous rendition of the story.

Miranda Priestly will be played by Vanessa Williams in The Devil Wears Prada The Musical in London’s West End.

Williams is the American actress who is best known for TV shows Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives, as well as countless movies and theatre productions.

Williams’ casting announcement came in the form of a sassy video posted on the official Devil Wears Prada Musical Twitter account, where she told fans to stop “sitting there – go buy tickets, or something!”

On joining the cast, and taking over Meryl Streep’s role from the 2006 movie, Williams said: “Bringing Miranda Priestly to life in the West End is an absolute dream come true. Gird your loins, folks.”

At the time of writing, the rest of the official cast of The Devil Wears Prada Musical has not yet been released.

However, she’ll be in good company, as The Devil Wears Prada Musical’s wider production team is a star-studded affair.

The award-winning creative team consists of Elton John (Tammy Faye, Billy Elliot: The Musical, The Lion King), new direction & choreography by Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde, Pretty Woman, Hairspray), lyrics by singer-songwriter Shaina Taub (Suffs), book by Kate Wetherhead (Ever After, Submissions Only), set design by Tim Hatley (Life of Pi, Back to the Future), costume design by Gregg Barnes (Some Like It Hot, Legally Blonde), lighting design by Bruno Poet (The Tina Turner Musical, Frankenstein), sound design by Gareth Owen (Come From Away, & Juliet) and casting by Jill Green CDG.

This article will be updated when more cast members have been announced.

The Devil Wears Prada Musical is based on the bestselling book of the same name (sans “musical”), which was written by Lauren Weisberger.

The official synopsis of the musical is below:

“Fresh out of college, aspiring journalist Andy scores a job at the prestigious Runway magazine working for fashion’s most powerful and terrifying icon – editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly. Sacrificing her personal life to meet Miranda’s impossible demands, Andy finds herself seduced by the glamorous world she once despised. How far will she go to succeed… and will it be worth selling her soul to get what she’s always wanted?”

The Devil Wears Prada Musical is set to take place in London’s Dominion Theatre.

This 2,000+ capacity venue is located on Tottenham Court Road and is a former cinema owned by the Nederlander Organisation.

At the time of writing, the Dominion Theatre is home to Grease The Musical.
