The Bavarian at Tea Tree Plaza closes suddenly

A popular restaurant chain has shut suddenly in South Australia, with a note farewelling customers left on the door.

The Bavarian restaurant at Tea Tree Plaza Westfield, in Adelaide’s northeastern suburbs, shut on New Year’s Day, devastating many fans of the chain.

A sign on the front door wished customers goodbye and thanked them for their continued support.

“We’ve loved being able to give you all a taste of Bavaria itself,” it read.

“Unfortunately, Sunday 31st December 2023 is The Bavarian Tea Tree Plaza’s last day of trade.

“Again, thank you and auf wiedersehen (good bye)!”

The venue, which specialises in serving “German-inspired meals and beers”, was the last remaining South Australian restaurant of the Bavarian chain.

The company confirmed to 7NEWS.com.au it made the difficult decision to close the restaurant on January 1, 2024.

“We are constantly reviewing our venue portfolio and, as part of this ongoing review, we made the difficult decision to close this venue,” a spokesperson said.

“We are very proud of the team at this venue, the support they have given, and their understanding of the decision to close.

“We also thank our Tea Tree Plaza customers for their continued support over the years and apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.”

Meanwhile, a social media post about the closure gathered a lot of comments, with some fans of the restaurant devastated and others slamming the chain for its “exorbitant prices”.

“I guess charging $30 for a schnitzel without chips didn’t work out,” one person wrote.

“Love the concept of the joint but was always deterred from going by what seemed like exorbitant prices,” another added.

The Bavarian owner, Pacific Concepts, also owns a number of other restaurant chains including El Camino, Winghaus, Munich Brahaus and Fratelli Fresh.

The Bavarian still has 15 locations remaining around Australia and New Zealand.
