Tesla windows famously can’t survive an attack from large steel balls, but you’d have thoughta windshield would be able to hold up against something softer, like a fish right? Wrong, one Tesla owner in New Jersey found out the hard way that their windshield wasn’t fish-proof after it was smashed by a fish that fell from the sky.
The Tesla in question was parked up on a driveway in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, reports Eyewitness News. While its owners, Jeff and Cynthia Levine, were home working around the house, they suddenly heard a crashing sound and their car “went crazy honking,” the couple told the news station.
When they went out to check on the car, they saw that the windshield was smashed and Cynthia recalls seeing fish scales and blood splattered across the glass. As CarScoops explains:
“The car started honking, it went crazy honking which we had never heard, I didn’t know how to turn it off,” Cynthia said. “I went out and he was in the yard somewhere, he heard the crash and everything but ignored it. We were like holy crap look at this, and I said to him, “it looks like fish scales and blood on the windshield.”
The couple then found the fish on the floor in their garage, and checked the car’s dashcam to see what happened. In the clip, which you can see for yourself below, the fish is clearly seen falling from the sky and striking the windshield. As it bounced back up into the air, it’s surrounded by flying fragments of glass from the front of the Tesla.
Thankfully, it doesn’t seem as though the attack on their car was some kind of fishy hate crime, instead the couple believes it was all the fault of an eagle that had been out hunting that day. As CarScoops adds:
The Levines blame a resident living on their own property. “We also have an eagle’s nest in our backyard… so we think it was probably the eagle,” Cynthia said to NJ.com. They did not name the eagle so it’s unclear if they’re attempting to protect its identity for fear of reprisal. At the same time, Jeff has a simple plea for other flying creatures in the area. “I lowered my deductibles so if any birds are listening, please don’t drop it here because I’m covered now,” he says.
Now, the Tesla has been towed to a shop and is awaiting a replacement windshield.
