Tesla Cybertrucks Are Getting Full Self-Driving Now, So Good Luck Out There

The Cybertruck has been on sale for nearly a year at this point, but it’s finally getting Tesla’s flagship (in Elon Musk’s mind, at least) piece of technology: Full Self-Driving. Members of the Cybertruck Owners Club forum are saying that the update enabling FSD has been installed on their trucks.

Shockingly, Tesla seems to have actually hit a target date with the rollout of Full Self-Driving… barely. The Austin, Texas-based automaker previously said FSD would be available in September, following the launch of Autopark, the Verge reports. Welp, Tesla rolled it out to some Cybertruck owners on September 30, so it got in right under the wire. Good job, guys.

The latest version of FSD (12.5.5) will start with Cybertrucks set up for the early access program. The new update apparently includes stuff like a vision-based attention monitoring system for drivers who are wearing sunglasses, according to a screenshot of the update posted on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum. It also includes “End to End” on highways, which isn’t worrying at all.

Other updates the Cybertruck’s FSD system gets are:

– Earlier and more natural land change decisions

– Improved performance in parking lots

– Improved performance at intersections and stops

– Introduction of Speed Profile.

It also comes with a warning to users:

Note: This is an early access build. You and anyone you authorize must use additional caution and remain attentive. It does not make your vehicle autonomous. Do not become complacent.

That Whole Mars Catalog goober on social media posted a 27-minute-long video clip of the new update being used in the Cybertruck. Overall, it’s pretty unremarkable. The system works about as well as it does in every other Tesla. That is to say that about six minutes in, the CT’s driver needed to intervene after the 7,000-pound truck nearly drove into a median after making a left turn at an intersection. This is going to go great, guys.
