Teens in hospital after car crosses road and crashes into tree at Port Stephens, NSW

Two teenagers are recovering in hospital after they were involved in a serious single-vehicle crash at Port Stephens, in the NSW Hunter region.

The teenagers were travelling southbound along Nelson Bay Rd at Salt Ash about 5.30pm on Monday when the crash occurred.

The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and crossed the median strip, crashing into an embankment and trees before coming to a stop.

The 17-year-old boy behind the wheel suffered minor injuries.

His 19-year-old male passengers suffered leg injuries.

Both teenagers were assessed by paramedics, then taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.

NSW Police are examining the scene and investigating the circumstances around the crash.
