Teenage pilot killed in light plane crash near Sydney

A boy has died in a plane crash southwest of Sydney.

Emergency services were called to a light plane crash at Brownlow Hill Loop Rd, near Camden, at 3.15pm on Wednesday.

The plane broke up as it skidded through a paddock.

The pilot and sole occupant of the plane, believed to be a 16-year-old boy, died at the scene, NSW Police confirmed.

He is yet to be formally identified.

Police, NSW Ambulance and NSW Rural Fire Service attended the crash site.

It is not yet clear why the plane crashed.

Forensic examination of the scene continues.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified and is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
