Stranger’s touching act for first responders after Bondi Junction massacre

A stranger has been praised for his random act of kindness after he picked up the dinner bill for a crew of paramedics on the night of the Bondi Junction massacre.

A NSW Ambulance inspector placed a “massive” pizza order at Crust Clovelly for about 40 people who worked at the scene on Saturday night.

But when they went to pay, a generous member of the public stepped forward.

“To the young guy that covered our tab, I have to say a massive thank you,” the inspector said in a social media post.

“Having full bellies made sitting down afterwards and having some very difficult conversations much easier.”

Crust Clovelly owner Yashi Soni said tensions were running high when news of the stabbing was unfolding.

“We heard the news about the Bondi stabbing incident … it was very sad,” Soni told 7NEWS.com.au.

“That night I was about to personally go buy some products from the shopping centre.

“It was panicky. The staff were a bit scared.”

Soni said the paramedics ordered $250 worth of pizzas for the team, and the customer did not hesitate to step in and cover the lot.

“The customer who helped was very kind,” Soni told 7NEWS.com.au.

“That motivated us to help.”

The store then decided to donate $200 worth of pizzas to Waverley Police that night, Soni said.

“It was a satisfying gesture for us to feel like we could contribute, but the reason behind it was we were very shocked,” he said.

“It was just 1km away from us.”

Six people were killed and a dozen more, including a nine-month-old baby girl, were injured before police shot dead attacker Joel Cauchi.

Police continue to investigate what motivated Cauchi, a 40-year-old Queensland man with a history of mental health issues, to carry out the massacre and the likelihood he targeted women — who were the majority of the victims.

Saturday’s victims have been identified as osteopath Ashlee Good, 38; multimillionaire businessman John Singleton’s daughter Dawn Singleton, 25; mother-of-two and architect Jade Young, 47; security guard Faraz Tahir, 30; student Yixuan Cheng, 27; and artist Pikria Darchia, 55.
