Asked about the Saints’ brigade of young AFL talent in the pre-game build-up to St Kilda’s clash with Richmond on Saturday, Lyon admitted a special connection he had with 19-year-old Lance Collard.

So close is he with the one-gamer from Western Australia, Lyon trusted him with his own personal car.

Explaining why, he let slip that he had lost his driver’s license.

“We brought Lance Collard with us. He’s really coming to hand, his girlfriend Hayley’s coming to Melbourne — so he’s settling,” Lyon told Channel 7 before the game.

“He’s got real elite speed, skill, endurance, so we’re really excited about Lance.

“I love Lance that much, I gave him my car for two months. Because I’d lost my license — accumulated points — so Lance had it.”

The Saints coach was happy to have a laugh about the situation.

“He got it (my car) cleaned, (left it with a) full tank,” Lyon said with a laugh.

Lyon was just as glowing in his praise of star defender Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, who is enjoying the makings of a breakout season.

“His preparation is elite, he’s really mature for his years,” Lyon said of Wanganeed-Milera

“He got some attention last week, and he still played well, but that’s part of his learning curve.

“So, he’s quite special for us, we know that.”
