(NewsNation) — The second generation of Lennon and McCartney has arrived in the form of a song co-written by the sons of the Beatles.
James McCartney and Sean Ono Lennon co-wrote “Primrose Hill,” which is now available online. It’s described as an acoustic ballad with guitar solos and a “shuffling backbeat.”
McCartney broke the news last week on his Instagram account, writing, “‘Primrose Hill’ is here! Today I am so very excited to share my latest song co-written by my good friend @sean_ono_lennon . With the release of this song it feels like we’re really getting the ball rolling and I am so excited to continue to share music with you.”
While Lennon has not been heard from regarding the song, Paul McCartney promoted it to his millions of social media followers.
“My son James has a new song out called ‘Primrose Hill’ – check it out! And lots of love to Sean Ono Lennon who co-wrote the song,” he wrote.
Born in 1977, James McCartney is a veteran musician in his own right. He’s co-written songs with his father and released solo albums in 2013 and 2016.
Noting that even his father had a tough time living up to The Beatles, James McCartney told the Daily Mail, “I started out playing under an alias because I wanted to start quietly. I had to serve my time as a musician and wait until I had a good body of songs and for a time when both myself and my music were ready.”
Ono Lennon has also been a working musician for 25 years. His 1998 debut album, “Into the Sun,” had another Beatles connection. One of the backup musicians was Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr.
