Some people rattled by India’s growth outlook: BJP on opposition attack on govt over Adani issue

BJP on Thursday reacted strongly to questions raised by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, based on reports in the international media. BJP said that some people were rattled by India’s growth outlook under the Modi government and were trying to malign the image of the country.

BJP national spokesperson Syed Zafar Islam told ETthat India is on the growth path and the world is looking towards India with great expectations. Islam was reacting to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks that India’s “reputation was at stake” and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of protecting the Adani Group from regulatory agencies like Sebi.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken several decisive and visionary steps to strengthen our economy, to speed up growth and development and key initiatives in the social welfare sector, which is being referred to as Modinomics,” Islam told ET. Islam said that the world economy is in crisis and the GDP of major economies is declining.

“While on the other hand, the Indian economy has emerged stronger and more resilient due to the impact of Modinomics. As per research from the SBI, in the last nine years, the per capita income in the country has almost doubled,” he added.

Talking about the allegations labelled by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi against the Adani group, he added that the said company has responded to it and he doesn’t feel the need to respond to the same. “However, I would like to add that there are people outside with their friends inside the country, who are rattled and feel threatened by Modinomics and India’s commanding position. We contribute around 20% of the total GDP. Therefore, they are driving an agenda to malign the image of the country. But they won’t succeed.”
