Single mum Tegan Abercrombie recounts life-changing All-Star Mile experience

The All-Star Mile has transformed the lives of many in its first five years, none more than single mum Tegan Abercrombie.

In 2020, Abercrombie took home $250,000 as the owner-ambassador of the winning horse, Regal Power.

Abercrombie walked away with the eye-watering sum after she stumbled upon the All-Star Mile and entered the competition as a wildcard.

“I found out about the All-Star Mile on a radio win page and entered through their competition as a wildcard,” Tegan revealed, recalling the moment her life took a lucky turn. “I was pinching myself when I got the call; I didn’t think it was real.”

“I was able to buy a car for myself and also helped pay for my debts. For when the time comes, I’ve got the deposit for the perfect house to buy.”

Each year, every horse in the final field of the All-Star Mile gets randomly allocated to a lucky owner ambassador who gets to experience the thrill of ownership.

A total of 16 owner ambassadors will be selected and score a VIP trip to Melbourne (including flights, transfers and accommodation) and the chance to be front and centre at Caulfield on Saturday, March 16.

While being an owner ambassador during the pandemic made the experience slightly different, Abercrombie got to enjoy the events leading up to the race day and urged everyone to get involved to have a chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

“I met the owners’ ambassadors two days prior, then we became good friends, and we all went for lunch,” she said.

“We all became one big family; I was mind-blown how everyone got along.

“The whole experience itself is amazing. Having that experience is just amazing that no one else can. It’s a prize that you can’t pay for.”

Entries for this year’s All-Star Mile close this Sunday. Don’t miss your chance to be treated like track royalty with an All-Star day out at the races and your very own horse for the day to cheer on.

The All-Star Mile field is starting to shape up, with another contender set to emerge through the Group 1 Futurity Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

With crowd favourites Mr Brightside and Buffalo River having already secured a start, should either of those gallopers win the Futurity Stakes – or run the quinella – the next horse home will receive a VIP invitation into next month’s All-Star Mile.
