‘Shock’ news dropped on new farmer Todd during first Farmer Wants a Wife date

Spoiler alert

Farmer Wants a Wife’s newest farmer Todd has officially kicked things off, meeting the eight women originally vying for his affection.

The 33-year-old cattle farmer, from the village of Baan Baa in New South Wales, was tasked with speed dating all the women before narrowing the field down to five.

Farmer Todd’s eight hopefuls were Anna, 29, Mollie, 24, Daisy, 28, Jamira, 26, Iyesha, 32, Grace, 25, Jacinta, 34, and Ellen 29.

Ahead of the dates, fellow farmer Joe was quick to offer the newcomer some advice: “You’ve just got to keep in mind why you’re here.

“The decisions are always hard but at the end of them you always know you’ve made the right one.”

Helping guide Todd through the process was co-host Natalie Gruzlewski who introduced the farmer to the new contestants, and asked if he was ready to take on the dates.

“Definitely not,” Todd joked.

Sparks certainly flew for Todd during the dates, and he eventually narrowed the field down to Daisy, Iyesha, Grace, Jacinta and Ellen.

But the day was not over for Todd and his five ladies, who were all immediately thrown into a camping evening with the other farmers and their remaining contestants.

“I’m excited! I’m excited to meet the other ladies,” one of Todd’s hopefuls, Daisy, told producers.

Once the introductions were underway, the women had time to try to put themselves forward for an upcoming 24-hour date with their respective farmer.

Quick to whisk Todd away was Daisy who said she wanted to get something off her chest early.

Sitting down, she revealed that she had previously been married, having filed for divorce in 2021.

Sharing the “whirlwind” relationship with a surprised Todd, Daisy said she and her former husband had met, became engaged and wed all within 10 months in 2020.

“(It was) one of those things I thought I wanted at the time. I was young and in love,” she said.

“I’m definitely ready to jump back in.”

Continuing to assure the farmer, Daisy said it had worked out for the best, with her now being sure of what she wanted.

“(Having gone) through the breakdown of a relationship, I’ve put the work into myself and I know who I am as a person, what I deserve and who I deserve,” she added.

Todd told producers it was “a bit of a shock for me”.

“(But) the fact she was able to open up to me that quickly and she felt so safe to share all that, it was a nice feeling,” he said.

Daisy later told producers why she wished to tell Todd so soon about her past.

“I just wanted him to understand that I am ready to move forward and I am ready for another relationship,” she said.

“I’m not going to let my past experiences define my future.”

Todd also asked to speak one-on-one with Grace, recognising that she was one of the quieter personalities in the group.

Sitting down for a chat, Grace asked where the farmer came from and also wanted to know about his parents — a topic Todd appeared thrilled to discuss.

“Mum and dad, the way they still are now — they are very cute, cheeky and fun together,” he said.

“That’s what I’m looking for, that level of love and infatuation that they still have.”

Grace said her own parents had a similar bond.

In a confessional after the date, she told producers: “I do see myself as being a good match with Todd.

”We do have a lot of the same values and, having come off the land myself, I do understand all the challenges that come with living on a farm.

“I do think I’m able to support him in the way that he needs.”

Farmer Wants a Wife continues Monday 7.30pm AEST on Channel 7 and 7Plus.
