The security guard killed in the Bondi Junction massacre died protecting those around him, those close to him have revealed.
Faraz Tahir, 30, was working as a security guard at Westfield Bondi Junction on Saturday afternoon when Queensland man Joel Cauchi, 40, stormed the busy shopping centre wielding a knife, sending it into lockdown.
Cauchi fatally stabbed six people and injured at least 12 others before he was shot dead by police.

Tahir was the latest victim to be identified, with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Australia revealing he died defending others.
The 30-year-old was a “cherished” member of the Muslim community who died “while serving the public during this attack”.
Tahir moved to Australia as a refugee just a year ago, fleeing persecution in his home country of Pakistan.
“He quickly became an integral part of our community, known for his unwavering dedication and kindness,” the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Australia said.
“Faraz was not only a valued member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Australia but also actively contributed to the charitable endeavours of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth organisation.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Faraz’s family and loved ones during this difficult time, as well as with all the other victims and their families affected by this senseless act of violence.”
High Commissioner for Pakistan to Australia Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri paid tribute to Tahir for saving others.
“Our deepest sympathies and prayers are with his family,” he said.
“We are working with the family for reparation of his mortal remains to Pakistan.”
Chaudhri said another Pakistani citizen was among those injured in the attacks and was in hospital in a stable condition.
Five other women died when Cauchi hunted shoppers throughout the centre, sending people running screaming in terror.
Videos of chaotic scenes inside Westfield Bondi Junction on Saturday show terrified shoppers falling over themselves as they rushed to escape the attacker.
Some sheltered in locked stores as others fled the centre. Others grabbed what they could, a bollard or chair, to try to stop the attacker.
Architect Jade Young, new mother Ashlee Good and entrepreneur John Singleton’s daughter Dawn Singleton have been identified as victims killed in the attack.
Young was a mother-of-two from Bellevue Hill and an active member of the Bronte Surf Club.
Singleton was also killed at the shopping centre, with her employer White Fox Boutique remembering the 25-year-old as a “special” and “sweet, kind-hearted person”.
Good died from her injuries in hospital following desperate attempts to save her nine-month-old daughter’s life.
Her baby girl was stabbed in the attack and remains at Sydney Children’s Hospital in ICU and is in a critical but stable condition after undergoing emergency surgery.
Good’s distraught family said the little girl was “doing well”.
“We appreciate the well wishes and thoughts of members of the Australian public who have expressed an outpouring of love for Ashlee and our baby girl,” they said.
“We are struggling to come to terms with what has occurred.
“We would appreciate peace and privacy while we work through this as a family.”
Eleven others, including nine women and two men, suffering stab wounds were treated by paramedics and taken to various Sydney hospitals, police said.
Several other people attended hospital with injuries overnight.
As of Sunday afternoon, two patients remain at St Vincent’s Hospital, two people are at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, another two are at Prince of Wales Hospital and one each at St George Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospital.
Four of these patients are in the ICU in varying conditions, while the others are stable.
A vigil commemorating the lives lost during the tragedy will be held at Westfield Bondi Junction at 6pm Sunday.
Community members have been laying flowers throughout the day to pay tribute to the lives lost.
