Search for convicted child sex predator, Allan Hopkins, begins in Queensland following sightings in South Australia and Victoria

Police from three Australian states are searching for convicted child sex offender Allan Hopkins over further alleged offences involving a minor.

Hopkins, 44, served a seven-year sentence for kidnapping a 10-year-old girl from her Paralowie home and raping her in 2007.

He was declared a high-risk offender last year and put on a supervision order that expired last month.

South Australia Police allege Hopkins committed serious sexual offending involving a child in South Australia in May.

They believe the 44-year-old has since fled the state and is now somewhere in southeast Queensland.

Members of the public are being advised to call the police immediately if they see him and are warned not to approach him.

Detective Superintended Scott Fitzgerald said police could not provide further details about the alleged incident in South Australia or the victim.

“It is a very sensitive investigation. We have people’s lives who are significantly impacted by the activities of Hopkins, it’s incumbent on us to protect them and protect their identity,” he said.

Hopkins sightings

Hopkins is described as Caucasian, 185cm tall, solid build, with short brown hair, brown eyes and a skull tattoo on his right upper arm.

Fitzgerald said Hopkins had reported to police yearly about his circumstances as he was required to do under the Child Sex Offenders Registration Act 2006

But police allege Hopkins has now breached his reporting requirements, as his whereabouts is unknown.

“That’s why we’ve published his image and his details on the South Australia police website, where you can go for wanted child sex offenders who are currently outstanding,” Fitzgerald said.

Prior to Hopkins arriving in Queensland, SA Police received reports Hopkins visited a Fullarton Rd bottle shop in Adelaide on May 2, and was then at a pharmacy in Millicent on May 3.

He is also wanted in Victoria for allegedly fleeing a roadside intercept.

Fitzgerald said the car in which Hopkins was travelling, a Mazda BT50 ute, was found abandoned on the Barrier Hwy in NSW.

Police are investigating his whereabouts and his current mode of transport.

“If Allan sees this report, the message is to hand yourself to the closest police station and that way we can safely apprehend you and also place you in front of the courts so these matters can be dealt with,” Fitzgerald said.
