Ryan Gosling fans were left confused after the Barbie star walked the Oscars red carpet holding hands with someone who wasn’t his wife Eva Mendes.
As footage emerged of the Hollywood star walking hand-in-hand with a “mystery blonde” wearing a sparkling low-cut black and gold gown, the internet went into overdrive.

“Ryan Gosling at the Oscars is more than kenough for us,” E! News captioned the footage posted to its Instagram.
That prompted a flurry of comments from perplexed and shocked Gosling fans.
“Ummmm where’s his wife? Eva?” one fan wrote.
“Who is that woman?” another wanted to know.
“Hold up, where is my girl Eva?” asked a third.
“I almost lost my s***,” one person wrote.
“Thanks to the comments for calming me down.”
“😮😮 who’s he with?” begged another.
But fans needn’t have worried — Gosling hadn’t just hard-launched a new girlfriend or subtly announced the end of his marriage.
The blonde in question is his sister Mandi, who he had taken as his plus one because his wife, a former red carpet regular, now famously loathes attending red carpet events and awards ceremonies.
Another chastised E! News for not noting in their comments that Gosling was there with his sister.
“Please put it in your caption that it is his sister!!” one follower wrote.
“Everyone nearly had a conniption trying to rush to the comments to find out who this woman who isn’t his wife is doing holding hands with him 😜.”
“That’s his sister! Y’all need to chill,” wrote another.
“Guys calm down — its his sister,” added a third.
“Everyone discovering famous people have family members and friends, Mendes. is at their home with the kids,” one follower joked.
Once it was clarified that the woman in question was his sister, fans found other things to ark up about.
Some felt it was “weird” that he and his sister were holding hands on the red carpet, while others thought it was mean of Eva Mendes not to accompany her husband.
“Who holds their sister’s hand like that?” one person asked, adding a vomiting emoji.
“Is it just me or is it weird to hold your sibling’s hand like that?” wondered another.
Others didn’t think it was that weird.
“For those saying how gross it is to hold his sister’s hand like that … watch she’s clearly nervous, and he’s guiding her through/by the paparazzi,” said another.
“They are prob holding hands cuz it’s really busy, and she’s not part of Hollywood, so it’s more comforting than intimate,” said another.
“His sister is so pretty, and I think it’s sweet they’re holding hands. I don’t see anything wrong with that,” agreed a third.
As for Mendes not being there, some fans thought that showed a distinct lack of support.
“Like I get it, you don’t do red carpets — but your man is up for an Oscar — maybe make an exception for a huge life event like that,” one fan grumbled.
“I don’t think Eva likes going to these, but not sure why she wouldn’t at least go to the Oscars to support her husband,” agreed another.
“The fact that Eva never shows up for him at the Oscars or any award show for that matter … is actually kind of sad,” a third wrote.
But others felt differently.
“Eva has said in interviews she does not walk the red carpet with him specifically because she wants the attention only on him for his work,” said one in Mendes’s defence.
“Y’all already know Eva don’t be doing all this, so let that man walk the carpet with his sister in peace. Shut up 😂,” suggested another.
