Rs 8,800-crore worth block deals take place this week; ITC, Vodafone Idea among stocks with significant action

The week gone by saw Nifty50 ending with a minor decline of over 0.1% on a weak-on-weak basis. However, it was not without action as over three dozen companies from large, mid and smallcap segments witnessed prominent block deals worth Rs 8,862 crore which included both buying and selling action.

In the largecap segment, 15 companies witnessed significant block deals which were worth Rs 5,729 crore, led by Kotak Mahindra Bank with 19 block count, totalling Rs 1,057 crore. The others in line were Axis Bank (Rs 698 crore), ICICI Bank (Rs 592 crore), HDFC Bank (Rs 570 crore), Adani Total Gas (Rs 412 crore), Bharti Airtel (Rs 371 crore), ITC (Rs 341 crore) and TVS Motor Company (Rs 325 crore).

Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company, Maruti Suzuki, NTPC, Varun Beverages and Avenue Supermarts also witnessed block deals between Rs 257 crore and Rs 151 crore.

The data has been compiled by brokerage firm Nuvama and pertains to the period up to Thursday, January 4, 2024. The deals were made between 8:45 am and 3:30 pm.

In the midcap segment, a dozen companies witnessed prominent block deals on the screen which were worth Rs 1,719. The leader in the pack was Vodafone Idea with deal size standing at Rs 243 crore followed by GMR Airports Infrastructure (Rs 238 crore), Bharat Heavy Electricals (Rs 226 crore) and Yes Bank (Rs 162 crore). The others were Indian Bank, PB FIntech (Policybazaar), Ashok Leyland, Solar Industries, Shriram Finance, Kajaria Ceramics, KPR Mills and Max Financial Services which saw deals between Rs 130 crore and Rs 90 crore.

As for the smallcap stocks, block deals worth Rs 1,414 crore were struck in 12 companies. The number one spot went to Godrej Industries (Rs 247 crore) followed by Swan Energy (Rs 157 crore) and JP Power Ventures (Rs 154 crore). The others were VST Industries, 360 One, Birlasoft, Strides Pharma, Krishna Institute, Alembic Pharma, Reliance Power, Cello World and Signature Global which saw deals between Rs 126 crore and 71 crore.

Nuvama also reported prominent bulk, block and insider deals in 17 stocks with details on buyers and sellers. Among them was Strides Pharma where Amansa Holdings bought shares worth Rs 120 crore. In VST Industries, DSP MF and HDFC MF sold shares while Radhakishan Damani and SBI MF bought stakes worth Rs 76 crore each.

The other stocks which saw prominent bulk, block and insider deals include Sobha, Kolte Patil, PDS, Aditya Vision, Olectra, Reliance Power, Innova Captab, Railtel Corporation, Anzen IYEP Trust, Azad Engineering, Suyog Telematics, Rajnandini Metal, SEAMEC and Shriram Properties.
