Royal family: Shock new poll reveals new royal favourites and it’s not who you expect

A new poll has revealed who the most popular British royals are right now — and it may not be who you’d expect.

An online poll conducted by HELLO! Online shows that two relatively under-the-radar royals have begun to emerge into the spotlight.

Princesses Beatrice and Princess Eugenie — the daughters of Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York and her scandal-plagued ex-husband, Prince Andrew — performed surprisingly well in the poll.

According to the poll, more than half of HELLO’s readers wanted to see the Princesses take on more prominent roles within the royal family, while 82 per cent of the magazine’s regular royal readers considered them “great role models” as working women, wives and mothers.

“I couldn’t be prouder of Beatrice and Eugenie and the strong, independent young women they have become — in fact, they are my proudest achievement,” Ferguson told HELLO after the poll results emerged.

“They both work for a living and have carved out successful careers but also dedicate a great deal of time to charity work.

“My girls are beautifully mannered with kindness running through them and are dedicated to duty in all ways.

“They miss their grandmother but learned so much from the late Queen: humility and goodness with compassion and strength.

“They are brave and bold and stand like giant oaks in the wind and don’t break.”

Standing “like giant oaks in the wind” is something the pair may have learned from being the daughters of parents who have always been in the headlines, often for all the wrong reasons.

Their father, the disgraced Prince Andrew, was stood down from royal duties by the late Queen Elizabeth after his association with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein became public.

And their mother has been the subject of scandal in the past, too — most famously in 1992 when paparazzi photographers snapped her “financial advisor” John Bryan sucking her toes on a holiday in Saint-Tropez.

The pictures appeared several months after Andrew and Sarah had announced their separation, but the divorce was not finalised until four years later.

During Fergie’s marriage to Andrew from 1986 to 1996, they had two daughters, Beatrice (born 1988, now aged 35), and Eugenie (born in 1990, aged 34).

In recent years the sisters have blossomed, with 78 per cent of HELLO’s Royal Club subscribers saying they admired their resilience and 60 per cent describing them as “rising stars” of the royal family.

“They are brilliant mothers and have built wonderful family units,” Ferguson said.

“They also support me through thick and thin, not least my recent illness (a breast cancer diagnosis).

“We call each other ‘the tripod’ because we prop each other up, come what may.”

Princess Eugenie has described her relationship with her sister as rock solid.

“We are young women, trying to build careers and have personal lives, and we’re also Princesses and doing all of this in the public eye,” she said.

“We’re not twins, yet you go through life knowing exactly what the other one is going through.

“She’s my big sissy, she’s a legend. She’s annoying when she wants to be, and I’m really annoying to her back, but we love each other, best of friends.”

Princess Eugenie has worked as the director of London’s Hauser & Wirth art gallery and is on the advisory board of sustainability initiative Goals House.

She married marketing executive Jack Brooksbank in 2018 at Windsor Castle and the couple have since had two children, sons August, born in 2021, and Ernest, born in May 2023.

Princess Beatrice is the Vice President of Partnerships and Strategy at Afiniti, an American data and software company.

She married property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in 2020, and gave birth to a daughter, Sienna, in September 2021.

Beatrice is also stepmother to Christopher Woolf, Edoardo’s son from a previous marriage.
