Round 6 teams: Western Bulldogs make multiple changes for crunch clash against St Kilda

Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has made multiple changes for Thursday night’s crunch match against St Kilda, with young superstar Jamarra Ugle-Hagan set to miss.

Ugle-Hagan is out for for personal reasons, and has been replaced in the team by forward-ruck Rory Lobb.

The Dogs will be without Tom Liberatore after the clearance machine was placed in concussion protocols following his scary collapse in the closing stages of last week’s loss to Essendon.

Riley Garcia and James Harmes also come into the team, with the Dogs deciding to axe Oskar Baker.

But once again Beveridge has overlooked AFL fan favourite Caleb Daniel.

Beveridge’s team selections have become a huge talking point this season, with Daniel and Jack Macrae and Bailey Dale all spending time as the sub.

That experienced trio also happen to be All-Australians, with Macrae only getting back into the team after gathering a whopping 47 disposals and 17 clearances in a VFL game.

St Kilda have also been forced into a change with spearhead Max King ruled out with a knee injury.

King was cleared of any structural damage, but won’t be risked off a five-day break following last week’s loss to the Giants.

Speedster Zak Jones comes in for the Saints, which is their only change.

Josh Battle was named in St Kilda’s line-up despite his partner, Casey, giving birth to a baby girl during the week.

The Saints and Bulldogs have matching 2-3 records with this clash looming as massive for their respective finals hopes.

While the Bulldogs are seen to be in strife, St Kilda coach Ross Lyon does not believe emotion will play a part in Thursday’s clash — noting Collingwood were also under scrutiny when his team beat them in Round 3.

The emotion most prevalent at Moorabbin at the moment is frustration as the Saints try to build momentum.

“There couldn’t be any more noise around the Bulldogs this week than there was around the Pies — emotion doesn’t get it done,” he said.

“In the end it’s hard work and system, capability and the ability to get it done longer than the opposition.

“We know we never give up, but we’re disappointed with our inconsistency — frustrated, probably.

“We’re all a little bit frustrated, but I think there are a number of teams in that same boat.”
