A major Australian building and construction group spanning four states has collapsed, with the director blaming “impossible” economic conditions and building costs for the company’s downfall.
Rork Projects, which describes itself as a national fit-out and refurbishment company, went into administration on Friday after 26 years of operation.
The group, which serviced the corporate and government sectors, is reported to have current worksites across ACT, NSW, Victoria and Queensland.

“It is with a heavy heart I announce that after 26 years of operations, Rork Projects was forced to commence voluntary administration,” company director Brian O’Rourke posted on the company’s website on Friday.
“This was the final step in a long journey to find a solution for our staff, clients and subcontractors, and we acknowledge the devastating impact this outcome has on them.”
O’Rourke said a “tsunami of impossible economic conditions” had hit the construction industry, “with upward of 2000 construction businesses collapsing in 2023”.
The company’s social media accounts have also been shut down.
“Builders are in crisis because of high interest rates, labour shortages and material supply constraints following the pandemic,” O’Rourke said.
“The construction market is facing one of the worst storms since the mid-1970s crisis. While devastating for us, it is also damaging to the Australian economy and community.
“Thank you to everyone who we have worked alongside.”
Insolvency Firm McGrath Nicol has been appointed as administrators and a request for comment has been made.
Last week, building company Cubitt’s Granny Flats and Home Extensions also announced it entered voluntary administration.
The family-owned business said the owners dipped into their personal assets to complete projects and honour contracts for several years before cutting their losses.
In January, building company DC Living appointed administrators, leaving 29 projects in limbo.
