Princess Beatrice’s ex-boyfriend Paolo Liuzzo found dead in Miami hotel room

Princess Beatrice’s ex-boyfriend Paolo Liuzzo was found dead in a Miami hotel room earlier this year, it has been reported.

While the cause of death has not been confirmed, Miami Police Department officer Michael Vega said it was a suspected overdose.

“It was investigated as an overdose death. The investigation is open and ongoing,” he told The Sun.

He was found dead at citizenM Miami Worldcenter hotel at 3.22pm local time on February 7.

The publication reports that his death certificate states he was working in the arts industry, never married and was living in an apartment not far from the hotel.

Liuzzo’s funeral was held in New York on February 16.

A source close to Luizzo told The Sun: “Paolo was not doing great on a personal level. He loved to party and to gamble.

“He began using a lot of pharmaceutical drugs at first but that later led to cocaine and harder drugs.

“It was a very fast lifestyle and we all feared it would catch up with him eventually.”

The youngest daughter of Britain’s Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York began a relationship with Liuzzo in 2005, when she was 17 and he was 24.

The former couple met through mutual friends and kept their relationship private.

However the pair split in May 2006.

Luizzo had repeated brushes with the law throughout his life, including an arrest in Australia in 2009 when he crashed a hired car into traffic lights on the Gold Coast.

He was charged with disqualified driving, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of fraud, and possessing 2g of cocaine.

He pleaded guilty and was fined almost $5000.

In 2002 Luizzo was charged with manslaughter of a fellow student while in the US during a drunken brawl.

Later, the charge was reduced to assault and he was given community service and a three-year probation.

Beatrice, 35, announced her engagement to property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in September 2019, before tying the knot during a secret ceremony in front of Queen Elizabeth and close family at The Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor in July 2020.

Beatrice is step-mother to his son Wolfie and together they welcomed a daughter Sienna, 2.
