You likely know Adam Savage from the years he spent on Mythbusters, where he unsubtly let his car guy tendencies shape the occasional episode. Now that Savage’s home is on YouTube, however, he’s free to let some of his biggest car ideas fly — including plans to fully EV-convert his beloved 1982 Land Cruiser.
Savage has owned the right-hand drive diesel Land Cruiser for years, and he’s long wanted to swap it over to a fully electric drivetrain. In a recent video, where a viewer asked him for updates on the project, he said he has folks in mind who could help him bring it to fruition. He just needs to set aside some cash for the swap, or — as a working maker who still takes on regular clients — he needs a sponsor for the build.
Savage floated in the video that, “There’s certainly a plausibility that some client will come to us and want a build that crosses over into that, and in that case, I will electrify my Land Cruiser.”
It’s a situation familiar to Mighty Car Mods fans — a project that doesn’t necessarily decide the car that’ll be involved, but gives builders an opportunity to make something neat as a tool to be used in a separate final project. Marty and Moog build plenty of vehicles for Supercheap Auto commercials, and Savage just needs a similar opportunity.
