Passenger leaves gel blaster on Sydney train

Police are searching for a passenger who left a gel blaster on a Sydney train.

Other passengers said the male suspect had left the train at Sydenham when a woman sitting opposite him noticed he had left a black item on the seat.

The gel blaster was handed to security guards who called police to Redfern station about 9am on Friday.

Police collected the firearm and are now investigating who might have left it.

Gel blasters are illegal weapons in most states and territories in Australia or require a permit to be used, except for Queensland where owners do not require a licence.

In NSW, people cannot acquire permits for gel blasters or their ammunition.

NSW Police said on its website: “No genuine reason exists to possess or use a gel blaster in NSW.”
