Oilers’ Draisaitl becomes third fastest player to record 100 playoff points

When the Edmonton Oilers needed them most, their big guns came to play.

Not only did Leon Draisaitl help his team to a 5-1 victory to force a winner-take-all Game 7, he also made history in the process, becoming the third fastest player in NHL history to record 100 playoff points.

The 28-year-old forward achieved the feat on Evander Kane’s goal in the third period against the Vancouver Canucks, and took just 60 games to do so. He joins elite company in Wayne Gretzky, who is first (46 games) and Mario Lemieux, who is second (50 games).

Teammate Connor McDavid has 96 points in 60 games, including a three-point effort in Game 6.

Draisaitl (and McDavid) will have the chance to pad their totals on Monday, when the Oilers travel to Vancouver and attempt to punch their ticket to the Western Conference Final.
