NSW driver’s shock excuse after allegedly speeding 100km/h over limit

A NSW driver has baffled police with his excuse for allegedly driving 100km/h over the speed limit at the weekend.

Police allege the 22-year-old was driving a Ford Mustang at speeds up to 170km/h, dropping to 164km/h in a 60km/h residential area on Conrod Straight, Mt Panorama, near Bathurst, on Saturday evening.

When pulled over by police about 6pm and spoken to about his speed, the driver allegedly said, “I was just driving”.

Police said the Kellyville man returned a negative roadside breath test but tested positive for cannabis.

“As a result, the driver was issued a court attendance notice to appear before Bathurst Local Court for the offence of driving at a speed dangerous to the public,” police said.

“His NSW driver’s licence was also suspended on the spot.”

A further charge is pending in relation to the positive cannabis reading, police said.
