Nikhil Chaudhary, Hobart Hurricanes Big Bash League player, on trial for rape in Townsville, QLD

Big Bash League cricket player Nikhil Chaudhary has denied raping a woman in Queensland.

Chaudhary, 27, is on trial in the District Court in Townsville on Monday after he pleaded not guilty to raping the woman in his car on Flinders St in the city’s nightlife precinct in May 2021.

He met the woman at a Townsville nightclub, the jury has been told.

Chaudhary played for the Hobart Hurricanes in the most recent season of the domestic T20 competition.

He was recently re-signed by the franchise until 2027.

The trial is expected to be held over days before Judge John Coker.
