I’m not one to sit in judgment of beauty trends — I’ve participated in plenty that, upon looking back on them, didn’t age particularly well. But that doesn’t mean I’m not occasionally baffled by looks du jour. In 2023, my favorite cute-but-confusing trend has been celebrities wearing their hair in their face or over their eyes. They make it look so good, but it seems so impractical and irksome — and yet, the stars never seem bothered by strands getting stuck in their eyelashes or tickling their noses. And the latest especially tolerant trend partaker is Nicole Kidman.
I’m always excited to see Kidman wear her hair curly like she did so frequently in the good old days, and she opted for a spirally updo to attend a special screening of Expats in Sydney, Australia, on Wednesday, December 20. It’s a truly classic look, with curls loosely piled atop her head and tendrils framing her face — except they didn’t just frame her face. One tendril fell right in the middle of her famously stunning features.
In photo after photo, the Oscar winner is seen with a perfect ringlet stationed between her right eye and her nose. In fact, it reaches just past her nose, making me hopeful that she’s using hair products that smell good since she’s getting a nonstop whiff with this style. Intentional or not, it looks truly lovely, and at no point did Kidman seem annoyed by the curly interloper despite it inevitably obscuring her vision.
