Hollywood star Kate Beckinsale has confused fans with her latest post on social media, a series of teary selfies taken from a hospital bed.
In two pictures, a tear-stained Beckinsale sits in a hospital bed, wearing what appears to be a blue hospital gown and, bizarrely, a giant black bow on her head.
Ostensibly the post was to commemorate her mother’s birthday and Mother’s Day in the UK, but it was the hospital pictures scattered amongst photos of her mother that had fans concerned.

“Happy birthday and UK Mother’s Day this last week to my incredible mother,” the cryptic post began.
“Thank you to those that love us and support us when it’s s*** and try to make sure there are some bits that aren’t.
“And for looking after our dogs when we can’t, and lead us to remember happy things when we can’t.
“And turn up when we are sick and sit with us … And send balloons and check in and pull us out of wells with love.”
The next part of Beckinsale’s message seemed a little confused.
“Thank you for loving us, those who do, and for the amazing, kindest Nick, and especially for my mother’s capacity for joy,” she wrote.
“It is so inspiring and beautiful.
“Happy everything mama.
“Your fight for joy despite also welcoming tears is the experience of watching a warrior up close.
“I love you.”
Beckinsale, who has starred in movies including the Underworld series, Van Helsing and The Aviator, also shared a picture of a black-clad hospital visitor, alongside several pictures of dogs.
The actress, 50, did not reveal why she had been hospitalised, leaving fans confused.
“Are you OK? Why are you in hospital? Please get well soon,” one fan wrote.
“I pray for your recovery, whatever it is you may be going through Kate,” wrote another.
Beckinsale recently lost her stepfather, Roy Battersby, with whom she was very close.
She announced his death on Instagram on January 10 by posting a plain black square with no caption.
Battersby died from a massive stroke at the age of 87 after a battle with cancer and a long and successful career as a TV director.
Beckinsale later revealed that she had requested his inclusion at the 2024 BAFTAs In Memoriam section but had received an email saying they “could not guarantee” he would be included.
After receiving outraged messages of support, Beckinsale posted a thank you note to fans on January 20.
“First of all, thank you to all of you who have expressed their support and outrage for the coldly worded email from BAFTA that so upset me and my family,” she wrote.
“Roy would have been blown away and moved to tears and it is unbearable to me that he was not able to see the amazing loving messages you have left.”
Beckinsale’s hospital post is her first since January 20.
“Hope you’re okay, life is tough at times,” one fan wrote.
‘Sorry to see you’re in hospital,” another said.
“Lordy you and your family have been through the wars lately.
“Hope you’re on the mend soon enough.”
Beckinsale has had several health issues in the past.
In 2019 she suffered a ruptured ovarian cyst and had to be hospitalised.
“Turns out a ruptured ovarian cyst really hurts and morphine makes me cry,” Beckinsale captioned a later post.
“So thankful to everyone who looked after me.”
Two years later in 2021, the actress had to go to hospital after injuring her back ahead of an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden.
“I was in my hotel room putting on a pair of leggings and then it felt sort of like a guitar string snapped and everything was horrific, I mean worse than having a baby bad,” she explained in a social media post.
Unable to walk, lie or sit down, paramedics had to pick her up in a sheet “like a sausage,” she revealed.
