“This kind of thing illustrates how indoctrination at an impressionable age leads to the anarchy happening on college campuses today,” Sheri Few of the United States Parents Involved in Education (USPIE) said in a statement.

According to the group, a concerned parent tipped them off about the exercise at Sandy Creek High School in Sandy Creek, Mich.

The teacher’s instructions read: “You will be playing the role of a pro-Hamas student debate organizer for a medium-sized college in the U.S.”

The assignment comes at a time of skyrocketing anti-Semitism, vandalism, and around-the-clock anti-Israel demonstrations at some of the nation’s top universities.

“This one wasn’t even close,” Frew said. “They were asking students to make arguments on behalf of a terrorist group. When you see Jewish college students afraid to attend classes, and lawless protesters taking over buildings and wrecking the end of the school year, it takes a special kind of tone deafness to ask teens to identify with pro-Hamas demonstrators.”

As a result, the USPIE gave the school — located about halfway between Detroit and Toledo — its May Millstone of the Month Award. The “honour” is given to the person or organization involved in government schools who has committed the most egregious acts against children.

“This kind of thing illustrates how indoctrination at an impressionable age leads to anarchy, as shown through what is happening on college campuses today. If this is how government schools are preparing children for higher education, they will never be safe and education will never be restored to its roots,” Few said.

According to The Midwesterner, the first part of the assignment is more pro-Israel following the Oct. 7 terror attacks before slipping into a tirade against the Jewish state.

Mom Lisa Kay expressed her concerns when her daughter was told she couldn’t take a pro-Israel stance. History teacher Hallie Vontroba allegedly explained that the first part of the assignment was pro-Israel.

Not so much, Kay said. She also told Midwest Messenger she didn’t believe the assignment was age-appropriate.

“I mean a 14- and 15-year-old child we should never put them in a situation where they should be sympathizing with a terrorist organization’s mentality,” Kay told the news outlet.

Rep. Jamie Greene (R-Richmond) also told The Midwesterner that the assignment was inappropriate for students of an impressionable age.

“Schools should be focused on education, not politics,” Greene said. “Students should never be forced to advocate for beliefs that go against their conscience, especially on sensitive topics like religion or terrorism. Let’s return to education basics: reading, writing, and arithmetic.”

USPIE is a nonprofit, nationwide coalition that seeks to return education to its proper local roots and restore parental authority over their children’s education by helping parents and local communities to escape federal and other national influences.
