McDonald’s reintroduces popular banana flavoured desserts

Macca’s is bringing back three popular desserts for a limited time, with one “fan-favourite” returning to menus for the first time in four years.

Starting June 12, customers can once again enjoy the Banana Caramel Pie McFlurry, priced at $4.50, the $2 Banana Caramel Pie and the $3 Banana thickshake.

Adding to the excitement, Macca’s is introducing a new dessert — the Banana Caramel Pie Chocolate McFlurry. This treat features pastry with banana custard and caramel sauce, served on a bed of vanilla or chocolate soft serve.

The Banana Caramel Pie McFlurry, which first debuted in June 2020, quickly became a hit, with customers expressing their disappointment when the limited edition flavour was removed from menus across the country.

One fan on the McDonald’s Australia Facebook page exclaimed, “You need this on the menu permanently,” while another wrote “why are these gone please bring them back.”

A third expressed dismay, writing: “I’m devastated. These desserts are amazing, please keep them forever!”

The desserts are part of a collaboration with the upcoming Despicable Me 4 movie, which premieres on June 20. But they are only available for a limited time, which will most likely upset fans once again.

In addition to the sweet treats, Macca’s will offer 12 mix-and-match Minion toys with Happy Meals.

“We’re so excited to collaborate with Illumination’s Despicable Me franchise for what is certain to be one of the biggest blockbuster movies of the year,” McDonald’s Australia senior brand manager Nichole Tsiros said.

“Since they first appeared in 2010’s Despicable Me, the Minions have become global icons, infiltrating pop culture in a meaningful way.

“Our Happy Meals are playful and nostalgic with intergenerational appeal. With our Despicable Me 4 Happy Meal, we’re offering moments of connection for the entire family, with a range of menu items for the small and big kids.”

The Minions-themed offerings will be available for a limited time, encouraging fans to visit their nearest Macca’s before they’re gone.

Cost of living pressure

Last week, in response to the current cost-of-living crisis, McDonald’s Australia also introduced a new “smart” meal deal.

The McSmart Meal, available from June 5 to September 3, 2024, offers customers more value with two burgers, small fries, and a small soft drink for just $6.95. Diners can choose between two Cheeseburgers, two Chicken ‘n’ Cheese, or one of each.

“We know how much it means to our customers to offer value, and that has never been more important than it is today,” McDonald’s Australia marketing manager Tobi Fukushima said.

“Customers can now make the smart choice at Macca’s with the McSmart Meal, as part of our ongoing commitment to serving the taste that customers know and love, but with even greater value.”

The McSmart Meal is available nationwide via kiosk, front counter, drive-thru, and the MyMacca’s app, daily between 10.30am to midnight.

With the return of popular desserts and the introduction of value-driven meal deals, Macca’s is attempting to lure back customers and provide some much-needed relief amid rising living costs.
