Man dies in fire at unit in Yagoona, in Sydney’s west

A man has been found dead following a unit fire in Sydney’s west.

The body of the man, who is yet to be formally identified, was discovered after firefighters extinguished the blaze in Yagoona on Tuesday morning.

Police were initially called to the unit on Wilkins St about 10.30am to conduct a concern for welfare check.

However, officers arrived to find the unit alight and fire crews were called in.

Paramedics treated three other people for smoke inhalation.

“A crime scene has been established and police and specialist investigators from Fire and Rescue NSW are investigating the cause of the blaze,” police said.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
