Man charged for pair of Halton hit-and-run crashes in same day

A 24-year-old man faces nearly a dozen charges after a pair of alleged hit-and-run crashes in Milton and Oakville on the same day.

Halton Regional Police said on Wednesday at about 12:15 p.m. a man was driving a stolen red Jeep Cherokee at a high rate of speed and proceeded through a red light at the intersection of Louis St. Laurent Ave. and Farmstead Dr. in Milton.

Police said the stolen Jeep struck another vehicle containing a four-year-old child who was not seriously injured, but the driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Cops said the suspect fled the scene in the stolen Jeep, which was reported stolen from Kitchener. The suspect was seen wearing a black balaclava. Shortly after the crash, police said the vehicle was seen by officers driving southbound on Hwy. 25, but the suspect didn’t stop for police and continued at a high rate of speed towards Oakville.

Police said just before 1 p.m., the Jeep was involved in a second crash, at The Canadian Rd. near the Ford plant in Oakville.

There were no seriously injuries.

Cops said the suspect fled the scene of the second crash on foot and allegedly tried to rob an employee of their vehicle keys in the parking lot of the Ford plant but wasn’t successful and fled into some brush located north of the plant.

With the use of K9 officers, police conducted a search and the suspect was found hiding in the bushes at about 1:40 p.m.

Saqr Kinani, 24, of no fixed address, faces 11 charges including two counts each of fail to stop for accident, dangerous driving, and fail to comply with probation officer.
