Paramedics attended, but Harpreet “Harry” Chandla, 31, died at the scene.

Chandla lived with his older brother Arman in Auburn, about 15km away, but why he was in Mount Pritchard remains unclear.

On Thursday Chandla was remembered as a loving family man and devoted uncle.

“It’s just too much for me at the moment to say anything,” his siblings said.

Investigating officers began door-knocking houses on the street on Wednesday and appealed to drivers who might have been in the area at the time.

Later, police executed a crime scene warrant at a nearby home, where they seized a Lexus sedan.

John Ung, 55, was arrested just metres from the scene and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving and failing to stop.

He was also charged with dealing with the proceeds of crime after police allegedly found close to $1 million cash in a bag in his freezer.

Ung appeared at Fairfield Local Court on Thursday where his lawyer argued that it is possible this was an accident and plausible he didn’t realise he had hit him.

Ung will be granted conditional bail once he hands over his passport.
