Man, 22, killed after truck crashes causing major fuel spill, road closures and delays

A man has died after a truck, carrying plane fuel, crashed into a tree in northern NSW.

NSW police said emergency services were called to reports of a truck crash on Clifton Road in Gunnedah about 8am on Saturday.

Paramedics treated the 22-year-old male driver, but he died at the scene.

The truck had been carrying a large volume of aviation fuel, which spilled into the surrounding area, according to police.

A crime scene was declared, and a major cleanup operation is underway due to the fuel spill.

Police said road closures were in place and are expected to be held for a considerable amount of time.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area.
